Dana - October 4-5, 2008

"Transport for Dana, a 10-year old Great Dane mix, from Arab, Alabama Animal Shelter.
She was spared euthanization at the 11th hour, only because a new forever home was found for her to go to and live out her days. They are preapproved, vet reference checked and passed home visit with flying colors. Can you help Dana get home? "

It looks like we can!   And we DID!  Dana went to her new home on Oct 5, 2008, thanks to the following people

And... for the first time we have video. Steven Spielberg has absolutely nothing to worry about.

It starts at Carroll County Airport, Westminster, MD. Christy has driven from Winchester, VA with Dana to meet us for the next leg via Cessna Skyhawk. Most of the shots out the window are of Philadelphia.

We meet up with Pilot Steve in West Milford, NJ. Steve had the honor of flying the anchor leg to deliver Dana to her new family. Dana touched the hearts of every driver and pilot along this long odyssey. We wish her every happiness. And lots of food.

Update - 4/4/2009

Enclosed are pictures of my Dana- I wanted to wait until she had put some weight on.  When I saw her, I felt so sorry for her she was just skin and bones.  I think every bone in her body stuck out.  She got a case of bloat the day she arrived so we took her to Tufts University Vet school.  They were not sure, because of her condition  whether or not she would surrvive.  We opted for the operation figuring it was where she was meant to be.   Dana has a strong will to live.

The vets could not believe her recovery.  We took her home and a few weeks later she was back at Tufts with severe intestinal problems.  She made it through again .  So far so good, I keep my fingers crossed.  She has been on a EN Diet every four hours.  The vets have told me it would take about six months to get her straightened out.

Her best friend is a dog named Booga, a small pit/lab cross.  They play much of the time and she is good with most of my other dogs-Dana can be quite domineering at times.  When we eat dinner her head is usually on the table.

I think Dana is 9 or 10 yrs old.  She is starting to get large warts on her.  My neighbor Elaine Bosler who has run a no kill shelter for over thirty years has been a great help .  She has taken in  handicapped and special needs animals over the years, and has cared for many Danes.  My vet who comes to the house for vet care is also a Great Dane person.

I will never forget all of you who have helped me save Dana.  She is a good girl.  Please feel free to contact me when you see her photos .  The black dog is her friend  Booga.
